Jeera Rice (Cumin Rice)

Prep: 10 minCook: 20 min4 servings

Simple, fragrant rice dish where toasted cumin seeds transform plain basmati into something special. Ready in minutes.

Ingredients

  • 12 cups Amritdhaan 1121 Basmati Rice
  • 22 tbsp ghee
  • 31.5 tsp cumin seeds
  • 41 bay leaf
  • 54 cups water
  • 6Salt to taste
  • 7Fresh coriander for garnish

Instructions

1

Wash and soak basmati rice for 20 minutes. Drain well.

2

Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add cumin seeds and bay leaf — let them splutter and turn fragrant.

3

Add the drained rice and gently sauté for 1-2 minutes, coating each grain with ghee.

4

Pour in water and salt. Bring to a rolling boil.

5

Cover tightly and cook on the lowest flame for 15 minutes. Do not open the lid.

6

Turn off heat and let it rest for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Use aged basmati rice for the fluffiest results.
  • Toasting cumin in ghee (not oil) gives the best flavour.
